Raptor Report, from ALYSHA Albrecht

Although we haven’t seen much snow in southeast Michigan (except for the early February snow storm) this was still a harsh winter in the wild. The constant cold temperatures meant raptors need to hunt more, so they can eat more and produce heat. We’ve seen the impact of winter with most of the birds who’ve been in our care. Thankfully we also saw strong birds thrive once they got the help they needed from us! We had four wonderful releases this winter. A not-so shy eastern screech owl flew free on December 12, 2021, a mighty adult red-tailed hawk was given a second chance on December 23, a huge juvenile female cooper’s hawk was set free on January 20th, and a fierce eastern screech owl was released on January 31st. None of this would be possible without your support and generous donations. Thank you from all of us and the birds!
